Project aims and outcomes
This project will support poor, rural farming families to address food security, the impacts of climate change, sustainable natural resource management and disaster risk reduction.
It will do this by developing sustainable strategies to increase agricultural and livestock productivity, reduce food shortage, increase income opportunities, improve health and nutrition and reduce disease in village communities.
Through these activities…
- Training for local farmers
- Provision of water and sanitation services
- Provision of health programs
- Development of home gardens.
Poverty in Cambodia
Cambodia is one of the world’s least developed countries where 54% of the population lives in acute poverty. Ratanakiri is one of the most food insecure provinces and is subject to hazards such as drought and floods. Koh Kong has limited areas of arable land. Most villages in these areas have poor infrastructure, inadequate clean water and sanitation facilities. Maternal and child mortality and child malnutrition rates are high.
Community Partnerships
CARE works with local communities to develop strategies that are sustainable and can be implemented using locally available equipment and human resources. CARE works with local and municipal governments to coordinate and strengthen equitable and inclusive development.
Part of a larger project
This project is part of CARE’s Rural Poor Program in Cambodia which uses an integrated approach to the eradication of poverty by providing access to health, nutrition, water, sanitation and micro-finance services and by reducing vulnerability to natural hazards.
